FiT Work #22 - Pacing Your Run

Due Friday, March 22nd by 10:00 pm!

Running is one of the most basic forms of physical activity that nearly everyone is capable of performing. No fancy equipment is needed, just throw on a t-shirt, shorts, and lace up a comfortable pair of shoes. You set your own limitations; you can run one mile or 10 miles, fast or slow, on a treadmill, around a track, or through a park. Some people, like the almost 40,000 runners that will participate in the next Boston Marathon, even prefer to run 26.2 miles at a time through city streets.

All runners that registered for the Boston Marathon must have first achieved a qualifying marathon finishing time to prove that they were able to complete a marathon in a reasonable amount of time. For example, males 18-34 must have been able to finish in 3 hours and 5 minutes (7:03 pace per mile), while females 18-34 must have been able to finish in 3 hours and 35 minutes (8:12 pace per mile). Whether you are training for the Boston Marathon, or trying to improve your mile time in PE class, knowing how to pace your run is an important skill that will help you achieve your running goals.
